Journey of Mothers Beneath My Wings from the Owner

Journey of Mothers Beneath My Wings from the Owner

The organization was founded by Helen J. Slaughter, who has both the practical experience and the education needed to lead the organization.

Hear It In Her Own Words

As a chief executive officer, I am working on assembling a strong board of trustees that can add great value to our organization and support in helping achieve our mission. I am a very outgoing and hard- working person who has consistently demonstrated readiness to consider taking reasonable risks by investing my time and energy in fundraising events and charity projects.

I have grown a strong passion for helping homeless youth and young mothers ages 16 to 24 and their children, by providing them with supportive housing and education services.

I am very aware of the life challenges and struggles of being a homeless teenager. It is totally overwhelming as a homeless adolescent mother carrying for her two children at the young age of 13 while being homeless.

My own dreams were shattered in becoming a nurse and helping others. After dropping out of school the challenges and struggles only added to the frustration and constant demands of being a young homeless mother of two. I believe with all my heart that God has used the struggles and pain of my past to propel the birth of Mothers’ Beneath My Wings a Youth Transitional Living Program for at-risk homeless youth and unwed Mothers and their children, by enriching their lives with supporting life skills that will enable them to live successful Independent life.

Youth Transitional Housing Program

Youth Transitional Housing Program

We are a newly launched social service and educational agency serving the greater Arkansas and Illinois area. The organization offers Youth Transitional Housing Program for the growing number of homeless and runaway youth who cannot return home. We provide housing and the necessary skills to support and assist homeless youth as they transition into living independently.

The purpose is to provide facilities which allow them to become self-sufficient, be on their own and live as successful adults and parents rather than being dependent on public assistance.

What Researchers Say

Research shows that there are over 26,000 unaccompanied youth up to the age of 21 in the state of Illinois, who have no place they can call home. Research also shows that there are over 2.5 million unaccompanied homelessness youth in America who have no place to call home.

We provide homeless youth and single mothers the opportunity to lead a safe and independent life.
